Research Integrity Editorial Accountability Scholarly Record

Commitment to Publication Integrity

IJAPSET is committed to preserving the accuracy and reliability of published research. When errors or concerns are identified in a published article, the journal assesses the available evidence and determines an appropriate editorial response.

Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions are handled transparently, fairly, and proportionately to the nature and seriousness of the issue. The objective is to inform readers and protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

01

Purpose and Scope

This policy applies to articles published by IJAPSET and governs the assessment and publication of corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions when warranted.

Matters covered by this policy may include errors in authorship, affiliations, references, figures, tables, data, methods, results, conclusions, research ethics, or other issues that could affect the interpretation or reliability of a published article.

02

Corrections

A correction may be issued when an error in a published article can be corrected without requiring retraction of the entire work. The journal considers whether the error affects the article's interpretation, reliability, or bibliographic accuracy.

Examples of Correctable Errors

  • Typographical or formatting errors that affect the meaning or clarity of the article.
  • Incorrect author affiliations or verified metadata errors.
  • Errors in tables, figures, captions, or references that can be corrected transparently.
  • Factual errors that can be rectified without invalidating the main findings.

When a correction is approved, IJAPSET publishes a notice describing the error and its amendment. The original article remains accessible, with a link to the correction where technically feasible.

03

Retractions

Retraction may be considered when the reliability or integrity of a published article is seriously compromised. A retraction notice alerts readers that the article should not be relied upon in its current form.

Potential Grounds for Retraction

  • Reliable evidence of fabricated or falsified data or results.
  • Plagiarism or substantial unattributed duplication that compromises the publication.
  • Serious methodological or analytical errors that invalidate the main findings or conclusions.
  • Evidence of unethical research practices or serious research ethics violations.
  • Duplicate publication that materially compromises the scholarly record.
  • Other substantiated circumstances in which the article's reliability cannot be maintained.

Retraction is not imposed merely because a finding is unexpected or an interpretation is disputed. Decisions must be based on available evidence and the seriousness of the concern.

04

Expressions of Concern

An expression of concern may be issued when credible questions have arisen about a published article, but an investigation is incomplete, the evidence remains inconclusive, or the journal cannot yet reach a final decision.

Where appropriate, the notice identifies the affected article and explains the general nature of the concern without presenting unproven allegations as established facts. The journal may update the notice when additional evidence becomes available.

05

Reporting an Error or Concern

Authors, readers, reviewers, institutions, and other concerned parties may notify the IJAPSET editorial team of a possible error or integrity issue in a published article.

Information to Include

  • Article title and DOI or article URL, if available.
  • A clear description of the suspected error or concern.
  • Relevant evidence, documents, data, or references supporting the report.
  • Contact information, if the reporter wishes to receive a response.

Reports should be made in good faith and provide sufficient information for meaningful assessment. Confidential information should be handled carefully and shared only where appropriate.

06

Assessment and Investigation Procedure

STEP 01

Initial Assessment

The editorial team reviews the report to determine whether it raises a credible concern requiring further assessment.

STEP 02

Evidence Review

The journal examines available evidence and may consult relevant experts or request supporting information when necessary.

STEP 03

Author Response

Where appropriate, the journal requests clarification, supporting evidence, or a response from the relevant authors.

STEP 04

Editorial Decision

Based on the available evidence, the journal determines whether no action, a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction is appropriate.

STEP 05

Publication of Notice

When warranted, the journal publishes a notice explaining the editorial action and identifying the affected article.

07

Publication and Visibility of Notices

Correction, expression-of-concern, and retraction notices should clearly identify the affected article and explain the reason for the editorial action to the extent supported by the evidence.

  • Each notice should be clearly labeled and independently identifiable.
  • The notice should be linked to the original article where technically feasible.
  • The original publication record should remain traceable.
  • A retracted article should be clearly marked as retracted, with a notice explaining the reason.
  • Metadata and indexing records should be updated where technically feasible and appropriate.
08

Fairness, Confidentiality, and Accountability

IJAPSET seeks to handle correction and retraction matters impartially, with due regard for the rights and responsibilities of the parties involved.

  • Editorial decisions should be based on relevant evidence rather than unsupported allegations.
  • Authors should be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to material concerns where appropriate.
  • Confidential information should be protected during assessment, subject to legitimate investigative and legal requirements.
  • The journal may consult institutions, research organizations, or qualified experts when appropriate.
  • Editorial notices should accurately represent the findings and conclusions of the assessment.
09
